JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for coordination of operations for the Sleep Disorders Centers for Swedish Hospital part of NorthShore. Develops and directs the educational programs for the polysomnography technologists. Provides direction and support for chief technicians and technical staff. Develops and supervises a patient education program (desensitization program). Develops, with Medical Director, policies and procedures for the Center. Is responsible for developing, monitoring and reporting to the Medical Director and Administration quality assurance measures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance of Various Sleep Related Neurophysiological Testing

  • Performs Polysomnograms independently
  • Performs CPAP titration following departmental guidelines. Adjusts levels appropriately
  • Performs MSLTs (Multiple Sleep Latency Tests)
  • Scores polysomnograms and MSLTs

Supervision

  • Is responsible for establishing and maintaining departmental procedures and protocols. Insures compliance with AASM standards
  • Supervises all sleep center staff (supervisory and technical)
  • Responsible for recruitment and retention of staff
  • Responsible for scheduling and allocation of duties

Equipment

  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and assists supervisors and technical staff in resolving them
  • Responsible for researching and recommendation of new equipment for new technology
  • Responsible for assuring competency of staff in use of new equipment

Education

  • Responsible for the establishment of a formal education program for all technical staff
  • Educates all technical staff in the science and art of scoring polysomnograms
  • Performs record reviews with technologist
  • Attends seminars and pursues work related educational programs independently

Sleep Centers Support

  • Maintains certification of the Sleep Centers
  • Maintains and updates standards of practice in sleep disorders
  • Participates in increasing public knowledge of sleep disorders by participating in various community education programs

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Education: Formal training in a Neurophysilogy or Sleep Studies Program, prefer Bachelor's degree
  • License/Certification: Registration by BRPT (Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists)
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a PSG II in an accredited Sleep Center. Supervisory experience necessary. A strong background in Polysomnograms and MSLT scoring
