Job Summary

The Compost Manager will have oversight and responsibility for all production, operations, and sales of the composting facility. The Compost Manager will ensure safe working conditions and best processes for the composting facility. The Compost Manager will also play a key role in account management and sales growth.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and supervise the compost operation and production
• Develop relationships with and identify new sources of material inputs for composting operation
• Create and maintain various reports and logs regarding production, safety, inventory, and regulatory oversight
• Develop sales strategy and manage key customer accounts; increase sales; Supervise sales staff
• Document all incidents by company policy
• Identify challenges in operations and identify corrective actions
• Planning and organizing production schedules
• Manage and evaluate machine resources to ensure productivity and minimal downtime Monitor all expenses incurred for the compost operation. Develop and control profits, plans, and budgets.
• Establish workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity
• Create schedules for employees to ensure optimum staffing levels, and hiring.
• Stay current with new technologies and trends in the composting industry and effectively integrate them into existing processes. Oversee facility upgrades and long-term planning. Consider and implement new product development in line with customer requests and market trends

Qualifications

• Bachelors or associate degree in agriculture or equivalent work experience
• 3-5 years of composting experience required; Experience overseeing a composting facility preferred
• Familiar with compost equipment including loaders, grinders, screeners, aeration systems, mixing & stacking equipment
• Working knowledge of composting procedures and processes
• Experience within a manufacturing environment preferred
• Experience with trucking and delivery logistics
• Solid waste management and policy
• Currently has or is willing to obtain a Compost Operator Certification Safety or Operational Efficiency Certification Communicate any problems or obstacles to senior management

Working Conditions

• Perform minor mechanical duties in a garage and periodically in the field and is frequently exposed to heavy equipment, moving parts, noise, dust, grease, vehicle fumes, fuels, and cleaning chemicals normally associated with auto maintenance and repair. Also, performs operational duties outdoors and may be exposed to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and traffic. Safety precautions must be always followed to avoid injury to self and others. Out of town may be seldom too occasional.
• Required to work seasonal extended, weekend, and/or evening hours and possible response to emergencies.
