The modest decline points to a stable but subdued hiring environment, with job listings holding broadly steady month-over-month. Notably, job listings remained above June 2025 levels, representing a 10.4% year-over-year increase.

This uptick was driven by peak summer tourism rush and steady consumer demand for travel and dining, prompting employers to frontload their seasonal hiring early in the summer to secure sufficient labor. Additionally, high natural turnover in these industries required businesses to regularly post new openings to maintain baseline staffing levels.

Closed duration, or the average number of days job listings remain live on company websites before removal, tracks hiring velocity across the U.S. economy. As the average duration increases, hiring velocity slows.

In June, the closed duration rose to 44.7 days from 40.8 days in May, reflecting a shift toward more deliberate and selective hiring practices.
