Hiring Momentum Continues Despite Volatility in Q2 2026
The number of unique active jobs rose by 5.73% to 8.10 million in Q2 2026. This increase suggests the market continues to stabilize, though the pace has slowed compared to the previous quarter’s growth of 9.51%.
This growth was supported by a 4.59% increase in new job postings, with employers prioritizing high-skill tech, arts and science roles.
Closed job duration, which represents the average time to fill a job, fell by -2.40% to 42.44 days. This trend signals a modest improvement in hiring velocity, as employers streamline interview processes and promptly remove outdated listings to keep candidate pipelines fresh.
The broad-based sector gains leading into Q2 2026 were driven by strong hiring activity and resilient consumer retail spending, prompting employers across nearly all industries to ramp up active job pipelines.
Labor demand continued to strengthen into Q2 2026, with notable growth in education, legal, science, and arts and media occupations fueled by corporate and public sector initiatives. However, administrative support, sales, food preparation, and healthcare support roles declined.
