Predicting Future Earnings with Alt Data

LinkUp’s job listing data, collected daily and directly from company websites since 2007, can provide unprecedented insight into market trends at the industry, geographic, or company level. Analysts at Refinitiv used LinkUp’s alternative job listing database to predict earnings estimates for BP (BP.L), formerly British Petroleum, ahead of an upcoming earning season. Findings show that a steep decline in active jobs in March for the oil company preceded declines in earning estimates the following month.
